In more than thirty years of reading energy, I have learned to slow down when someone asks me to settle exactly what another person said. Different memories of a conversation can carry strong emotion, but a strong feeling is not a recording. An energy reading cannot verify the wording of a private exchange.

That does not make your experience unimportant. It means the useful work is to separate remembered words, the meaning each person took from them, and the agreement you need now. You can take your own response seriously without pretending certainty where the record is incomplete.

Describe your memory without making it the verdict

Start with “I remember leaving that conversation believing…” This names the understanding that shaped your actions. Invite the other person to describe theirs with the same specificity. One of you may remember a possibility while the other remembers a commitment. That difference can explain a conflict without proving that either person deliberately lied.

Look for existing information that clarifies the practical point: a calendar invitation, a message already exchanged, or a written plan. Use it to understand the agreement, not to create a courtroom atmosphere around every sentence. If there is no record, acknowledge that limit rather than repeating your version more loudly until it feels documented.

Separate impact from the disputed wording

You may disagree about the exact phrase and still agree that one person felt dismissed or acted on a mistaken expectation. Address that consequence directly. “I can see why you planned around that” can move the conversation forward without requiring someone to confess to words they do not remember saying.

At the same time, watch for a persistent pattern in which your recollection is mocked, obvious records are denied, or every disagreement becomes evidence that you cannot trust yourself. That pattern deserves attention beyond a single misunderstanding. You do not need an intuitive verdict about hidden motives to notice how the discussion is being conducted.

Build a clearer agreement for next time

For matters that affect time or shared responsibilities, end with a short summary: what has been decided, who will do what, and when you will revisit it. A message such as “We agreed on Saturday at two; tell me by Friday if that changes” is a practical kindness, not an accusation that someone has a defective memory.

Keep the summary proportionate. Not every affectionate conversation requires minutes, and endless documentation can make closeness feel monitored. Reserve written clarity for arrangements where different understandings have real consequences. Then observe whether both people honor the clearer agreement rather than continue fighting about the old exchange.

I feel that self-trust grows when you can hold both your experience and the limits of certainty. You do not have to surrender your judgment to remain open to correction. The goal is a relationship where misunderstanding can be explored and repaired, rather than one where only the most confident memory is allowed to exist.
